Food is regarded as any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink to maintain life and growth. This implies that food can be in the solid or liquid form.
Food existsin various dimensions, it can be diet rich foods, and it can be hazardous foods which causedamaging effects on one’s health or neutral to one’s health, i.e., no nutrient is added to the body.
Diet: this implies the use of specific intake of nutrient for health or weight management reasons.
In accordance with various researches conducted, it reveals that a wider range of Nigerians consumes food to quench hunger and not for the nutritional values.
Diet rich foods help to make the body more healthy and free from various forms of diseases such asobesity(which is regarded as the mother of all diseases ), diarrhoea,etc.
According to various researches conducted, it was discovered that a lot of people believe that to get diet rich foods it cost a lot, especially those in the rural area, not knowing that diet rich food is cheaper to get once one understand the nutritional values of diet rich foods to one’s health.
Therefore, there are diet rich foods that are more than just ordinary food because of the high nutritious values added to the body:
EGG: According to dieticians, it’s saidthat eggs are high in protein and other nutrients that help the body organ.
It is one of the reasons pregnant women and children areadvised to ensure consumption of egg as a form of diet rich food to help in making the body healthy; it is acceptable generally in the world that, “EAT AN EGG A DAY.”
OATS: is a diet rich food because it contains a lot of nutrients that isgood for the body to remain healthy, such asvitamin B1, magnesium, etc. that is why, it is more emphasized for children from 6-months and above, also pregnant women to keep them healthy.
MILK: is a diet rich food, it contains vitamin B2, calcium, etc. it helps pregnant women, nursing mothers, children, and even adults to stay healthy.
For instance, when milk is consumed by nursing mothers, it helps to increase the milk content in the breast to be consumed by babies and prevent dryness of breast milk. Also, in children, it provides energy and strong bones and teeth to live a healthy life.
FISH: is an aquatic animal that contains very high nutrient, i.e., it is a diet rich food than ordinary food. Fish is rich in protein, little amount of fats, etc.
It is very advisable and health wise good to ensure fishes are consumed every day by everyone to help in staying healthy.
PUMPKIN LEAF (UGU): Is a diet rich food that contains incredibly high nutrients such as iron, magnesium, andzinc.
It helps in supplementing blood in the body and prevents loss of blood or dryness in the body. Pumpkin leaf is more than just ordinary food because of its high benefits to the body.
Therefore, in hospitals,they advise pregnant women not to jeopardize the consumption of pumpkin leaf(ugu) due to its specialbenefit to the body, i.e., increasing blood in the body.
JUTE LEAF(EWEDU): is a diet rich food that contains a lot of nutrients that are of high benefit to the body.
Jute leaf( ewedu) helps to prevent dryness, and it’s advisable that pregnant women consume it better because it helps to make the passage way for delivery more slippery, hence helps to ineasy deliveryof the baby.
BEANS CAKE: also known as Akara, is a diet rich food which is gotten from beans. It’s very rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, fat andoil, etc. which helps to make one healthy.
It’s healthy for both young and old in consumption than just ordinary food. Beans cake is associated with a lot of nutritional values that promotes healthy living to the consumer. This diet rich food is made in all races and tribes with a variety of methods.
MOI-MOI: is a diet rich food which is gottenfrom beans and it passes through a varietyof processes before it can be addressedas moi–moi.
Moi-moi is more than just ordinary food because of its nutritional value to the body such as protein, fat, and oil, vitamins, minerals, etc. which helps to keep the body healthy that ordinary food cannot achieve.
BEANS: is a diet rich food which is highly richin protein and other nutrients required by the body. We must note that women who are pregnant, also those nursing babies, children, and even adult should inculcate the habit of eating diet rich food such as beans which is more than just ordinary food.
CRAYFISH(DRIED): is a diet rich food and should be included in food consumed.
Crayfish arevery rich in protein which helps to keep the body healthy that is why, ethically, it is advisable to include Crayfish in children’s meals from ages 6- months old and above such as inclusion in paps, beans, etc. more than just ordinary food.
Although, understanding the importance of consuming three(3) square meal is very important but have a deep knowledge of what is to be consumed bearing in mind its nutritional values to one’s body is of great importance.
Therefore, consumption of diet rich foods that are more than just ordinary food is of great importance.
It will be awesome be to have nations both developed and developing countries, Nigeria inclusive where people consume food not justto quench hunger but understanding its nutritional values and going for healthy food for the benefit of their health.
